Ontario Pit Bull Ban
I agree with all the points raised by animal rights groups in this Toronto Star article. If the Ontario Liberal government were to put this ban through -- and I sincerely hope they don't -- it would mean any still surviving pit-bulls and cross-breeds in animal shelters today would be doomed. And it would mean our dog Victor would probably be required to wear a muzzle in Ontario. We might also have trouble bringing him across the border, depending how much enforcement were put in place. Victor has clear signs of being a Pit crossed with Lab -- but certainly doesn't need a muzzle. And we can always come thru Quebec. But its the "cleansing" that even the threat of this law causes that is really disturbing.

O Superman
I've taken to checking out new gadgets at engadget.com pretty regularly. Something different than the usual fare today was the x-ray machine invented by this guy in North Bay, Ontario.

New playlist
We've got a new playlist started under the Listening Room. Alan suggested the theme of songs about places. I quickly agreed -- though its taken me 3 weeks to do the 20 mins of effort to set up a new list. You'll notice that I flipped the order of the playlists, so this new one is on top. The first song I thought of that fits this theme of "place" is on there now. I look forward to seeing how this might inspire you out there. And I'll be working in an office with my headphones on all next week, so please, send us a tune!

Guatemala trip
100 Photos
Lake Atitlan Panoramas

Sharon and I went to Guatemala for 9 days between Christmas and New Year's. It was her first trip, and my third, though I hadn't been there since '96. We visited the colonial city of Antigua and several towns/villages around Lake Atitlan. Magnificent setttings, all surrounded by volcanoes. Such beautiful, gentle people. It seemed like everything was a photo opportunity - this is about one half of the pictures we took/kept.
