Kakamega Man
Hey everybody, Adam Lee is temporarily living in a place so interesting its enough to blog about. Catch up on his entries so far from September and October.

Leaving T.O.
The car is packed, the apartment tidy. We've finished up all the loose ends of making making my mom's apartment, and our own, a bit nicer. Kicked our last pile of leaves and ready to head back home. Early in the morning we'll hit the road heading for Nashville, or somewhere near to halfway there.

What the future may bring
Yesterday we went out to breakfast with our neighbors and talked about versatile people who change careers frequently. I said that I often let the ideas in my head of other careers stay there, basically because the pay is good at my current job. Saying this I felt a superstitious twinge, an inkling that my job could change. Well that hasn't necessarily happened, but I did wake up this morning to find that the company I work for as an independent contractor is going to be bought by Oracle in the next few months. Not sure what that will mean exactly, could be good all around.

Corned Beefheart
Sharon went back to Texas this week to help her mom. I've enjoyed being on my own for a little while (I think she has too). Especially enjoyed cooking for myself. One evening I was surprised to see what happened with this little snack...

More stuff I didn't know

I've seen the movie Star 80 several times, in which Eric Roberts plays the part of the hideous creep husband so very very well. However I'm late in learning that the film director that entices Dorothy Stratten to leave was, in reality, Peter Bogdanovich. And that some years after the murder, he went and married Stratten's much younger sister Louise. He cast Dorothy in the film They All Laughed, which came out on DVD a couple of days ago and was ranked as the 6th best film of all time by Quentin Tarrantino. Not sure what to make of that, but its a good enough reason to resurrect our Netflix account soon. Better add Hi Diddle Diddle (QT's #12 pick) to the queue too.

How I spent my fall vacation
We took the high road from Ottawa to Georgian Bay again this year, this time James joined us for the drive through full-on fall colour landscapes of Algonquin Park.

Science of sleep
Wednesday, the same day that I learned the word hypnagogic, we went to see The Science of Sleep, starring Gael Garcia Bernal speaking two foreign languages (French and English). I really enjoyed it - an excellent companion to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Just now realized that it was done by the same director as that film, Michel Gondry, but this time it was his own script.

Today my brother and I tore down the wall in the entryway of our apartment. We've been contemplating this for five years now, and I have a bit of time before my next project starts so we decided to tackle it. Its all plaster on lath walls in this ninety year old house, so there was lots of dust and loads of debris to haul away. Now its all cleaned up, ready for us to start the finishing work. Even though I was super exhausted and fell asleep right away -- now I'm wide awake in the middle of the night. I think its that the energetics of the room have changed (the wall coming down made the bedroom feel twice as big and opens it up to the skylight in the stairwell). Probably just need to get used to it, or move things around or add something to balance the space.

Slimming
I did it - I've lost 20lbs. Even after a weekend of Canadian Thangsiving with stuffing, gravy and pumpkin pies. The process has only taken the 10 weeks since Sharon, my mom and I joined WeightWatchers at the start of August. The three of us have dropped well over 40lbs, my mom is getting around with a less joint pain than before, and Sharon has bought a new bathing suit for a pending romp on a beach somewhere. The collective mass we've shed would be quite ugly if it were sitting in a pile somewhere, but fortunately its evaporated and gone away.

I've made a point of working on this without doing something like hitting the gym - since I've never done that on a regular basis. We'll see how things might change in a few months or years, but right now it feels like I've got built some good habits that will last. Hurray!

Wakefield
Sunday night Sharon, James and I went to the Black Sheep Inn to see/hear Natalie MacMaster and her band. They were playing this small club to rehearse for the Celtic Colours festival they'll be playing later this week, including a taping for a PBS special. A brilliantly energetic show - I was blown away. The next day James took care of Victor in town while Sharon and I lingered in Wakefield to enjoy a super relaxing day, eating crepes and playing photographers while walking through woods and meadows in the Gatineau Hills.
